Respiratory Support Training: modern clinical skills for IEU students

As part of the Harvard double helix approach to integrated training, IEU second- and third-year students are practicing respiratory support skills using current clinical protocols. In particular, special attention is paid to the study of non-invasive ventilation and CPAP therapy, becoming the standard of care for acute respiratory failure after the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the training, students were able to:

• Learn anatomical and physiological foundations of the respiratory system,

• Explore the principles of CPAP masks and their application,

• Practice installing nasal cannulas, naso- and oropharyngeal airways,

• Master algorithms for working with laryngeal masks and endotracheal tubes,

• Practice determining cuff pressure and assessing lung expansion during ventilation.

Classes are accompanied by visual materials, interactive demonstrations in English, and individual practice using simulation equipment. This approach facilitates not only the deeper understanding of the theoretical material but also the development of clinical thinking and confidence in one’s own actions.

The goal of the training is not only knowledge but also the ability to apply it in clinical situations.
