IEU hosted the Introduction to POCUS Training: innovations, practice, and friendly life hack competitionRecently, International European University held the Introduction to POCUS practical training for beginners. The key goal of the training was not only to acquire basic knowledge of ultrasound diagnostics but also to develop creative clinical thinking and find non-standard approaches in diagnostics.
The training focused not only on typical images of pneumonia that participants should see during POCUS but also on the logic of searching for them. The following was suggested:
• focus on auscultation of rales using the Littmann stethoscope as a starting point for ultrasound examination;
• shift from a convex transducer to a linear one to more accurately visualize B-lines;
• learn to detect hidden A-lines through micro-oscillation of the transducer and pumping of the lungs in the intercostal space.
One of the most spectacular parts of the training was a friendly life hack competition between coaches. They demonstrated:
• an original method of visualizing the heart through the liver;
• an innovative method offered by a student who suggested cutting out an image of the heart from the left rib cage.
The audience’s feedback made it clear that the training was a real discovery. Many attendees tried working with ultrasound machines for the first time, while some even compared the functionality of ten different devices to choose the most convenient one.
The training allowed us to raise 5,000 UAH of donations for the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade
