On May 12–13, 2025, Vilnius hosted the Baltic-Polish School of Immunology (BPSI 2025) organized by the Lithuanian Society for Immunology and supported by the European Federation of Immunological Societies (EFIS). This international event brought together leading scientists, doctors, and young researchers from different countries to discuss relevant immunology issues.
The conference program covered four broad thematic areas: host-pathogen interaction, inborn errors of immunity, sterile inflammation and autoimmunity, as well as tumor immunology. Participants were able to listen to plenary presentations by leading European experts and present their own research in the form of posters and short talks.
Speakers included Professor Anastasiia Bondarenko, the Head of the IEU’s Department of Pediatrics, Immunology, Infectious and Rare Diseases, who reported on the functioning and disorders of the CARD11 gene. Her presentation sparked great interest among the audience and facilitated the exchange of experience in genetic aspects of immune disorders.
Due to the support of the Organizing Committee and EFIS, more than 10 young Ukrainian scientists received grants to take part in the conference. They included Associate Professor Yurii Stepanovskyi, PhD in Medicine, Associate Professor Kateryna Smiian, and intern Nataliia Ipatis from IEU who presented their research findings during the short presentation session.
The participation of IEU representatives in BPSI 2025 stresses the University’s active position in the international scientific space and promotes the development of young scientists. We are proud of achievements of our colleagues and wish them further success in their scientific activities.
