On December 20, 2024, IEU hosted an exciting meeting as part of the Double Helix Curriculum. The keynote speaker of our event was Vadym Vus, a family doctor and lecturer at IEU, who shared his knowledge and experience with future healthcare professionals.
The title of the course symbolizes the intertwining of two threads of medical education, allowing students to integrate knowledge of basic sciences into clinical practice from the very beginning of their studies. It is a unique approach developed by Edward Hundert during his deanship at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry.
We were able to discuss important ethical issues arising in the process of medical education and practical training. Students actively shared their opinions on social consequences of scientific discoveries, which contributed to deep reflections and discussions.
Project and research tasksParticipants took part in project and research tasks combining scientific concepts with real-world problems. It is not only provides the better understanding of medical aspects but also helps to assess the impact of science on society as a whole.
Besides, we talked to Ruslan Sad who shared his invaluable professional experience in conducting trainings for blind people and soldiers. His story about the life of a visually impaired person inspired all attendees and opened new prospects of understanding inclusion in medicine.
